“Bac Sierra, Bone Mountain”

James “N Jeff” Jeffrey Bac Sierra was born on November 10, 1968 and finished his journey here on June 16, 2008.

He was the Heart of Vida Loca, and he knew even as a youngster what his duty should be—Full Force Locura.

San Fran Mision.

He was the first Homeboy I ever knew who could get down with los mas locos y locas and also chit-chat and do business with white folks. Some weekend mornings I would knock on his door at 5:00 o’clock in the morning and tell him, “El hombre que quiere hacer algo en su vida, se levanta a las cinco de la manana.” He would open the door, then we would hit the Dugout or Clooney’s bar in the Mission and handle work 🙂

On Mission and 22nd he had his own insurance office. On weekday mornings, he would dress up in a suit and tie, but by noon, he’d be in la cantina hitting a few beers and shots. By dusk, he had his shirt off baring his barrel chest to all who dared to bounce down the block. He would fist fight anyone. He would also embrace anyone. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. You always show your face.

He held the line at 21st and Folsom.

He showed me what it means to be a man, someone who is imperfect, but who has honor. Even though I am ten years older than he ever was, he still is and will always be my big brother, my carnal, my hero.

Strong and Brave.
