Poem: “Entering Iron”

“Entering Iron”

Tonight I want to ask forgiveness for ancient sins

I want to enter iron, a forging of life and spirit

I have lit a veladora, a prayer candle, to enflame spirit on this holy night

Under the guise of goodness, I promoted propaganda—lies and murders of spirit. I tempted others to seek destruction. Under the belief of my mind and will, I hid truth and led others to evil.

I lament and clean my hard heart:

Forgive me my naiveté

Forgive me my vanity

Forgive me my trespasses

There is but one Lord of Life

Amor

It is a burning spirit that the wind cannot extinguish
