Ray Balberan is an O.G., someone who has lived Love, Mission Love.
I remember he fought against the ugliness of San Francisco’s juvenile injustice system when I was going through it in the 80’s. He has always been a light.
He has documented the grassroots history of family and community in the Mission district. No one recorded this type of raw roots footage. This is our roots.
Join us this Saturday, October 22, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. for the world premiere of Uncle Ray’s unprecedented original film “Mission Love” at the Brava Theater in La San Fran Mision!
This poem is dedicated to him:
“Mission Love: For Ray Balberan”
I pick up a pebble and it gives me good luck
I put it in my pocket and it is the most precious thing I own
It teaches me about time and patience
This simple stone gives me faith
In it lives the will of God and that is all I will ever need
I know a good thing when I see it
Amor
Love
Mission Love
The poor give more than the rich
The poor are full of faith
They love
I take the pebble from my pocket and bow in humility and happiness for spirit
I will not hoard this treasure
I give it to you
Mission Love
